Commuting really takes it out of you. I used to commute to the Google Children’s Centers in Palo Alto, Mountain View, and Sunnyvale from Redwood City. It would be a 9-10 AM start time usually depending on the day. I did that from Feb 2022-July 2024. Now I commute by bike (or car if it’s cold/I’m tired from last night) to schools that are a 10-25 min bike ride away. There’s two schools that I do need a car for, because it’s up a big hill and I don’t want to be sweating balls by the time I enter the classroom. They’re about a 15 min drive away. I now teach half as many hours and have doubled my admin work, which is a win on my end as a working, performing vocalist and songwriter. Teaching and meetings would be about a total of 20-24 hours in a two week span, and now it’s about 7-12 hours. I’ve now received more performing work since I’ve been engaged in the community, so having less hours makes a lot more sense.
YAWN.
This is boring, I know.
This evening, I sat in our car thinking,
“Why do I still live here in Silicon Valley when I could be in San Francisco? I love it there. Our rent is pretty cheap though. Am I complacent?”
“I fear not being able to have a baby due to financial instability and merely reacting to life…same old lifestyle - constantly tired… We’re both musicians and music teachers. We have family here, but what are we doing?”
“Am I able to make boundaries when other musicians work twice as fast as me? I just want to get my feet off the ground, but also need the money.”
“When the hell am I going to start loving recording from home. I honestly want to get away from my computer?
My eyes are closing. I want to get up early.
I showed up best I could. Today my head was spinning. Work weeks make me moody, no matter how beautiful and loving the children are. I also got sucked in by instagram today. Bad idea. Listening to the artist ‘Fog Chaser’ to help settle my mind.
Till tomorrow…hopefully in better presence <3
I get it. I got diagnosed with anxiety because the stress of commuting so much!
If you or Jeff ever need a hand recording or mixing, feel free to reach out!
